Energy advice

Do you have high energy bills, are not sure you’re on the best tariff or you are running up fuel debt? If so, our Energy Solutions Advisors may be able to help you.  

Our Energy Solutions Advisors can provide you with free home energy advice. We have already helped over 2,000 customers, and we can help with:  

  • Fuel debt advice
  • Impartial information on best energy tariffs
  • Help you make the best use of energy in your home
  • Help understanding energy bills; and
  • Help you with heating systems and controls  

We can also offer help to you with:   

  • Warm Home Discount

    The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a government initiative that gives some low-income households a £140 discount on their electricity bill.

    It's a one-off discount administered by your energy supplier providing your energy supplier participates in the scheme. It is not a cash payment, but comes as a reduction in your bill or as a top up if you have a prepayment meter.

    If you receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or you / your partner are on a low income or get certain means-tested benefits you may be entitled to it.

    The scheme opens once a year and is based on a first come first served basis. Electricity suppliers are starting to open their schemes now so check with your supplier to see if you’re eligible and how to apply or contact Stockport Homes Energy Advice Team for more information or assistance.

    *The scheme does not affect your entitlement to either the Winter Fuel Payment or the Cold Weather Payment

    Available to you if you are of pensionable age, have a disability, hearing or visual impairment or have a short or long term health issue. Suppliers can provide extra support such as large print or quicker response if there is ever a power cut in your area. 

  • Charis Grant

    Are a trust fund, anyone can apply to them if they are in financial hardship, and struggling to pay back arrears on their gas and electric. Once the application is complete it is reviewed by the trust board and if successful the applicant may be awarded part on full payment towards their arrears. All applications are based on an individual basis.
