The unique Stockport Homes and B4Box partnership was formed to tackle a local need to provide targeted support to our most disadvantaged tenants who face multiple barriers to work whilst at the same time addressing a national challenge of attracting, training and qualifying the next generation of recruits to the construction industry.
The aim of the partnership was to create a permanent and positive employment offer that could take people from unemployment to long-term sustainable careers. This would transform lives, build communities and generate savings for the public purse by reducing dependency by people who struggled to access other routes to employment.
The training that is provided is highly practical and is delivered both on and off site. We adopt a flexible and tailored approach and can provide employees with 1:1 tuition if required. Training is directed towards four potential outcomes:
- Employment at Stockport Homes on capital work programmes.
- Employment with other local employers.
- Promotion within B4Box to trainer or team leader.
It is a unique approach in having such a range of potential outcomes that can benefit both the company and the local area. It helps to maintain our trained and skilled workforce within the Borough and boost the local economy.
