Your weekly rent and service charges are reviewed annually and will change this year on 1st April 2024. It’s important you let Universal Credit know about these changes straight away to make sure you get paid the right amount of Universal Credit. If you’re late reporting the changes UC won’t usually backdate them, and you could miss out on money you’re entitled to.
When you log into your UC account on the 1st April 2024 a new to-do “Report any changes to your housing costs” will be in your “To-do List”. This To-do is a specific one to prompt you to provide your up-to-date Housing Costs information. It will only allow you to notify changes to your housing costs – you won’t be able to use it to declare any other changes of circumstances, you’d need to report these changes in the usual way. You can complete the To-do as soon as you see it in your account, but in case you don’t notice it, you’ll also receive a message prompting you to complete the To-do some time after the 1st April 2024, depending on your Assessment Period end date.
You will need to know your new rent and service charges to complete this task. If you are unsure about what these are please contact us and we will be happy to provide the information you need and talk you through the process.
