I helped a customer who was having difficulty with under-occupancy deductions from her Housing Benefit. The customer’s son had moved out of the family home to live with his girlfriend so she now had a spare bedroom. I helped the customer to successfully apply for a Discretionary Payment to help her with rent payments. I was then also able to advise her about registering with Homechoice to assist with downsizing to a one bedroom home.

I helped a customer who was having problems with a large Housing Benefit overpayment. The customer was very worried when she received notice of the overpayment as she was informed that she would have to pay back over £1,000. I arranged to visit the customer at home to assess how the overpayment had happened and look at how we could help. I am pleased to say that I successfully challenged the overpayment and the customer no longer had to pay back any money.

I met with a customer who had been told that his Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) had stopped as he failed his Work Capability Assessment. Having chatted with the customer about his health conditions and how they affected him. I could help the customer gather evidence to appeal against the decision to stop his ESA. I represented the customer at his appeal hearing, which was successful and he was awarded ESA.

I initially visited a customer to discuss the problems she was having with her Child Tax Credits. During the appointment, I also discovered that the customer’s son had long-term health problems which required extra care needs. Having identified that her son could be eligible for Disability Living Allowance (DLA), I helped the customer with an application. The customer’s son was later awarded DLA which solved the Child Tax Credits problem.
