  • Warm Home Discount

The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a government initiative that gives some low-income households a £140 discount on their electricity bill.

It's a one-off discount administered by your energy supplier providing your energy supplier participates in the scheme. It is not a cash payment but comes as a reduction in your bill or as a top up if you have a prepayment meter.

If you get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit this is known as the ‘Core Group’

    • You’ll receive a letter between October and December 2021 telling you how to get the discount if you qualify and you’ll receive it automatically.
    • Your letter will say if you need to call a helpline by 28 February 2022 to confirm your details.
    • Your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill by 31 March 2022.

If you’re on a low income and do not get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit – this is the ‘Broader Group’

    • You will need to apply each year
    • Criteria to apply varies between each supplier, you usually qualify if:
      • You receive means tested benefits or are on a low income

I do not get it automatically, how do I apply?

The scheme opens once a year and is based on a first come first served basis. Electricity suppliers are starting to open their schemes now, most suppliers will open applications in Autumn so check with your supplier online to see if you’re eligible.

The easiest way to apply is on your supplier’s website please see links below to all the suppliers that are part of the warm home discount.

If I am successful when will I receive it?

You will receive it by 31st March 2022. It will be credited to your electricity account automatically or if you have a prepayment meter, you will receive a voucher in the post.

I need help with my application.
