You will have seen in the media the weekend riots across the country. Fuelled by hatred and racism, the far-right activity that has targeted Muslims and non-white people in general, and people seeking asylum in particular, has affected many communities leaving people feeling unsafe, and despair at the actions of this group. As an association, we stand against racism in all its forms and will do everything we can in the support of our communities.

The law allows us to take legal action against any customers or household members who are involved in riots, and we will do so.
A number of customers have already been identified as being involved in the riots and tenancy action is being taken.
S99 of the ASB Crime & Policing Act introduced amendments to secure and assured tenancies brought in to address rioting behaviour because of events in 2011. The Government pushed for landlords to take tenancy action against tenants/household members, but this was not possible if outside the locality of their home. Further amendments were brought in 2014 -
- If you are a tenant or an adult (18+) household member
- Convicted of an indictable offence (triable at Crown Court)
- Which occurred at the scene of a riot (as defined by the Public Order Act)
- Taking place anywhere in the UK
You could be placing your home at risk.
Be safe – and kind to others – we don’t know what others are going through.
