The Safer Neighbourhoods Service at Stockport Homes Group have successfully secured another Closure Order on a property at Lincoln Towers on the Mottram Street Estate, following an escalation in reports of serious anti-social behaviour. Working collaboratively with Greater Manchester Police and the Council, the Safer Neighbourhoods Service was able to gather sufficient evidence to take legal action against the premises, utilising powers under the ‘Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014’.

The Closure Order was granted at a hearing in Stockport Magistrates Court on Wednesday 11th September 2024, and came following persistent anti-social behaviour, which was occurring at the property and having a detrimental effect on local residents and the community. The Safer Neighbourhoods Service and Greater Manchester Police had received complaints of a high number of visitors coming and going from the property, drug activity, fighting and noise nuisance.

The Closure Order means that no one is permitted to reside in, or visit, the property for a period of three months. The order will provide respite and protection for the residents who were affected by the behaviours whilst Stockport Homes Group proceeds to take back permanent possession of this property.

Anti-Social Behaviour in Stockport will not be tolerated as it can have a significant detrimental effect on public confidence, consumer footfall, the ambience and atmosphere within localised areas. Combating and preventing ASB is a priority for Stockport Police. The Policing Team work proactively with Stockport Homes Group using various effective tactics including Closure Orders to tackling ASB issues, arresting and prosecuting offenders. The Police work closely and efficiently with Stockport Homes Group and other partners, ensuring that the local area is a fantastic place for the local community, shoppers, commuters, to work, live and socialise
