An organisation created to provide children with unusual activities and challenges is about to extend its reach further in the North. For the last year Wonderful Things has been expanding into other venues in Lancashire and now, having been approached by Stockport Homes, they are set to take on a further base in a primary school in Stockport with more schools to follow.
Stockport Homes approached the Rossendale organisation early in the summer to ask them to deliver activities during school holidays beginning with a pilot week in October at All Saints CE Primary School in Heaton Norris.
Kate Crane, Project Manager, Wonderful Things said
Wonderful Things has had a very successful year as a not-for-profit organisation and we were delighted to be contacted by Stockport Homes to discuss extending the impact of our activities south of Manchester. The background to Wonderful Things lies in providing children with greater life experiences and challenges to create well rounded individuals with a wider skill set than can be taught during the school day.
Tanya King, Social Inclusion Manager, Stockport Homes said
Stockport Homes is delighted to be working with Wonderful Things and All Saints Primary School to deliver this pilot project, which supports our mission to transform lives. We hope these exciting holiday opportunities will improve educational attainment and aspirations amongst the children, as well as providing much needed affordable childcare during the school holidays.
Stockport Tesco has very kindly donated packed lunches for the whole week, and their Community Champion Claire Walton will be coming to make the sandwiches at the school.
Wonderful Things, known for its unusual selection of themed days across the arts and sciences, provided five weeks of activities in several venues in Lancashire during this year’s summer holidays. Over 400 primary school aged children have enjoyed special times since Wonderful Things began in 2013 experiencing days created to inspire them and feed into their social and academic attainment.
