Pantry At Number 5 opened its doors to customers for the first time on Wednesday 6 April and has signed up over 50 members in the first week. The pantry is the fourth local food store under Stockport Homes’ ‘Your Local Pantry’ umbrella.
Pantry at Number 5, which is located at 5a Cuddington Crescent is for customers living in Adswood and Bridgehall. The Pantry has been created through partnership working, with Stockport Homes, Stockport Council, FareShare, B4Box and Repair 1st working together to deliver this fantastic project.
For just £2.50 a week Pantry members can choose at least 10 items of groceries, with the average shopping basket often worth in excess of £12.50, which is a potential saving of £520 per year.
The Pantry is run by volunteers and provides opportunities for people looking to gain work experience, give something back to their community or just spend a few hours getting to know their neighbours.
The pantry also provides further support to members with initiatives such as ‘cookery demonstrations’ encouraging people to cook from scratch using ingredients from the pantry, and links with local services such as the Health Trainers, Credit Union and Stockport Homes’ various support services.
David Wright, Chair of Stockport Homes’ Board said,
I am delighted to see the fourth local pantry project open in Stockport. This will make such a difference to our customers in Adswood and Bridgehall by providing high quality and low cost food as well as opportunities for people to volunteer in the Pantry.
