Communities count as local groups receive funding at family event

Posted 13 June 2016

A number of local community groups have been boosted this week thanks to funding support from Stockport Homes’ ‘Community Count’ event.

Over 150 Stockport residents and local community organisations came together on 8 June in Bridgehall to celebrate a fantastic summer event in their community and also to see which community groups had been awarded funding.

The lively event also raised £120 for Stockport Homes’ Charity of the Year, St. Ann’s Hospice. Members of staff sold numerous raffle tickets and also had a collection to help support the local charity.

Customer Service Manager, Ferri Brown said:

It was great to see so many people come down to attend the event and support these fantastic local community groups with their bids to receive funding. Each year we see more and more people getting involved and we had 48 applications for funding this year which made the shortlisting difficult.
It was a brilliant event with a variety of activities for all the families, friends and residents to enjoy on what was a great day for the community. With the sun shining, we had a superb turnout and we were thrilled to see so many people enjoying themselves.
Local groups provide such a great service and we’re extremely happy to help support the work they do in the local community thanks to the funding they have received.

Cllr Elise Wilson added

It was a lovely, well attended event and I would like thank Ferri and the team for all their hard work.

The ‘Community Count’ event was organised by Stockport Homes and saw a range of activities for adults and children including football training, planting and growing, DJs, health advice and climbing walls.
