All bloom and no gloom as competition winners revealed

Posted 06 September 2016

The winners of Stockport Homes’ annual gardening competition have been revealed today after judges chose their favourite from the list of entries.

There were 28 entries in total for the competition including beautiful baskets, colourful containers and mouth-watering fruit and veg. Customers could win up to £250 in vouchers for the best garden in the Borough.

Prizes for first, second and third in each category, in each area, were vouchers to the value of £50, £30 and £20 respectively.

Miss Collette Parker won the Best in Borough prize and pipped Mr Ralph Brown to 1st place. Mr Brown entered the competition with his wife and they won the prize for the West area category.

The judges were impressed with the originality of Miss Parker’s garden. The use of limited space and the variety and quality of plants and shrubs she had used made it stand out, as did the impressive hanging baskets.

Chair of the board, David Wright, said,

I would like to say a big thank you to all those who entered this year. The time and effort our customers spent on their entries was really impressive and those who won should feel very proud.

The winners were:

Individual garden winner – Miss Collette Parker
Communal Garden Winner – Grey Close Gardening Group
Fruit and Veg winner – Offerton Community Allotment
Container winner – Mr & Mrs Tumbelty

Individual Garden – Mr & Mrs Brown
Communal Garden – Miss Jean Simpson
Containers – Miss Jean Simpson
Fruit and Veg – Mr Brian Cartwright

Details of next year’s gardening competition will be posted on Stockport Homes’ website in the Spring.
