Tameside based New Charter Group has been the only organisation in Greater Manchester to be selected for the second stage of the Building Better Opportunities programme funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund (ESF).
New Charter Group based in Tameside and Stockport Homes led on the bid on behalf of a consortium of housing providers in the North West region, collectively known as Manchester Athena. The bid is aimed at helping provide pre-employment support for hard – to - reach groups. The second stage of the bid process is due to be completed by end of March 2016 and if successful, the project will commence in Summer 2016.
Manchester Athena applied to the programme in order to secure funding for the Greater Manchester area to tackle poverty and promote social inclusion. The bid was the only one in the area which has been successful in progressing to the second stage. Manchester Athena is a partnership of like-minded organisations, which was established to develop Greater Manchester wide approaches to improve skills and increase employment opportunities in the communities they work in.
Ian Munro, Chair of Manchester Athena and Group Chief Executive at New Charter Group comments,
This is a major achievement for Manchester Athena and puts us on the road to establishing ourselves as a major player in the Greater Manchester area. It will help us towards building a better future for our communities and demonstrates our commitment to delivering opportunities to those that need it most.
