Local projects scoop awards for making a difference in Stockport

Posted 19 March 2018   |   By Verity Calderbank

Stockport Homes Group won two awards; ‘Excellence in Community Action’ for 1st Stop Café, and ‘Community Focused Service for the ‘Your Pantry’ project at the Northern Region TPAS awards. The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Friday 16 March.

These awards recognise and reward tenants who go the extra mile, innovative pioneering schemes and team efforts that make communities safer and more desirable places to live.

Stockport Homes won the Excellence in Community Action award for its work with local residents to set up 1st Stop Café, and train and develop volunteers to manage the café, providing affordable meals to local people, whilst offering opportunities for the volunteers for training, gaining qualifications and building confidence.

The award for Community Focused Service, was won for the ‘Your Local Pantry’ project, which offers affordable food to members, provides choice and develops volunteers to ensure the Pantry’s are community led.

Both projects will now go forward to the National Awards on 12 July in Warwickshire.

Robin Burman Chair of Stockport Homes' Board said

The TPAS awards are great recognition for the difference our local community volunteers make, both of these successful projects offer not only affordable food but opportunities to train, gain qualifications and increase employment opportunities. We are extremely proud of all of the volunteers who give their time and make such a difference to the community.
