Our Chief Executive Helen McHale has been the main driving force behind our success over the last 15 years. Named as an exemplar, Innovative Leader, a ‘housing high flyer’ and ‘power player’ nationally.

From meetings with Housing Ministers and the Prime Minister through to Helens commercial approach to housing growth - her values led style of leadership, innovation and excellence is central to everything we deliver; our evolution and our conscience.  Her socially responsible commitment to the community and all our colleagues remains her focus. Looking forward continually, and not afraid to challenge the norm. Helen is inspirational, a true and dedicated leader – and as always remains with her door open.

  • Our Values are embedded in everything we do

We ASPIRE. We are ambitious, socially responsible, passionate and innovative. We respect our customers, community and our colleagues and we aim to deliver excellence in all that we do.

  • We have invested 250 million pounds in the fabric of our homes to create modern energy efficient and safe homes for our customers

Improving homes, continually investing and repairing buildings to maximise energy efficiency and to keep them up to date is a core service that we deliver to over 12000 properties. From new kitchens and bathrooms, to wetrooms, roofing and solar power – over the last 15 years we have invested over £250 million in keeping homes places to be proud to live in and call home.

Safety and Security for our customers at home, and in the community is essential. We will always commit to work as hard as we can to get this right. We make huge investment in fire safety, building safety and we use innovative technology to help us lead the way with this.

Our high performing anti-social behaviour team work closely with GMP, and we know that this is a service that is one of the most important to our customers.

  • New Build Success

We made history with our first new build – and went from 1 unit to 1200 units by 2020!

We made history with our first new build development in 2009 with the first ever funding agreement made with an ALMO by the Housing Corporation.

We have continued to build.  Our new development company Viaduct builds homes for families, homes for people who really need them and want to get onto the property ladder in an affordable way. We have built over 500 properties in our time as an ALMO, including our first modular build. Recent developments include the exciting renovations of iconic and unused buildings. Building more than homes we are building life back into our communities.

  • Our Customers are at the heart of all we do and we deliver excellent services for customers

We listen. We listen to our customers, our teams and our partners. We work collaboratively to improve services, to offer new services that meet and exceed demands and we aren’t afraid to challenge the norm….if we can try something new – we will. As a pioneering and innovative organisation, we enjoy breaking tradition, trailblazing and sharing our knowledge and expertise across the sector and beyond.

Our customers make us great, providing feedback on our services ensures we constantly improve. We have been awarded the Customer Service Excellence Award for eleven consecutive years for our dedication to customers. Our award winning Tenant Scrutiny Panel play a vital role in ensuring excellence, and our Customer Board Members guarantee that customers are at the heart of everything we do.

We invested in a fantastic modern and accessible customer hub in our purpose built HQ Cornerstone.

  • Supporting our customers as they get older to live confidently and independently

We know that our older customers love being independent in homes that they can manage, are accessible and that they feel safe in. Whilst our Carecall service delivers 24-hour Telecare services across the borough and beyond.

We deliver adaptations that are beautifully designed, fit for purpose and can make for a lifetime home. For customers that are perhaps feeling they need some more support, our retirement living apartments and bungalows coupled with our Extra Care Scheme provide options that are right for customers on an individual basis.

  • We have created successful partnerships across GM and nationally

Our commitment to working with our partners across Greater Manchester and with organisations such as the National Federation of Almos continues to be a focus. Through working together, we can extend the reach and the benefit of our services to the customers who need them the most.

Helen our CEO is Vice Chair of the GM Housing Providers, influencing local and national policy for the benefit of our customers.

  • Safe clean thriving neighbourhoods

We believe that everyone has a right to a home that is safe and secure. We work to support people into accommodation that is right for them, in often the most difficult of circumstances. Rough sleepers, veterans, people fleeing domestic violence – offering a wraparound service that really is more than a roof over heads.

We work with customers and partners to ensure that neighbourhoods are clean, green, safe and secure. From grounds maintenance through to caretaking, we are committed to creating and maintaining communities that people are happy to live in and can enjoy.

Our team of Housing Officers offer a range of services to help customers to sustain their tenancies and deliver customer priorities in creative and innovative ways.

We are a key member of the Safer Stockport Partnership, working with other agencies to both prevent and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. We recognise the individual needs of perpetrators and potential perpetrators as well as victims.

  • We have delivered innovative green initiatives from biomass to bees

Our focus on a ‘Greener Stockport’ has been evolving and continues to be a key focus for us. From the pioneering installation of biomass heating to securing huge investment from the Community Energy Saving Programme. We continue to invest in making homes more efficient and we contribute to the carbon neutral pledge for GM. We have electric bikes and vans – we even have bees on our roof (and honey of course!).

  • Transforming Lives

Housing for us is so much more than bricks and mortar and we are passionate about working with communities to improve their health and education and better life chances. We aim to create opportunities for our customers to grow and learn and for their children to develop and play. We aim to create happier, healthier and more resilient communities who work together to achieve their collective goals.

We support local residents into training and employment and ensure value for money in our services. We are proud to be a part of the vibrant and diverse community we serve – part of #onestockport and to deliver professional services in the Borough.

Communities that are thriving are the key to brighter, healthier and more prosperous futures for young people and families. Whilst our local pantries help meal times be more affordable, holiday clubs deliver entertainment and focus, our Employment Teams deliver opportunities for everyone. We couldn’t do a lot of this work without our local community volunteers and groups – so to each and every one of you thank you.

We are proud to see the difference our services make; helping with money and benefits, employment, health and wellbeing and most of all confidence and a sense of pride in the community.

  • We are the No 1 Best Place to Work in the not for profit sector

As recognised by both Sunday Times and UK Business Awards.

In 2020 through the commitment of our #oneteam we were named the Sunday Times Best Companies NUMBER 1 best not for profit organisation to work for! This is our eleventh consecutive year in the list. This achievement coupled with accomplishing Investors in People Platinum has been an extremely proud milestone for our growing group.  Our #oneteam deliver excellence. They are confident, effective and true professionals. Caring about the quality of the services we deliver across the board. We invest in our colleagues. We know that to deliver the best we need the best. Whilst we continue to grow – one thing doesn’t change for us here at Stockport Homes Group and that is that we are One Team Transforming Lives.

We value people. All people. Our colleagues represent the diverse and vibrant communities that we serve. We encourage diversity, we champion everyone to be themselves, to #beyou, we sponsor Stockport pride, reduce the gender pay gap, ensure our building suits everyone. Working for us, with us, or using our services – rest assured we will always treat everyone with respect and without prejudice. We are proud of our approach, and of our team that celebrate a huge spectrum of creativity, backgrounds, skills and experience.

  • We have diversified and grown into a Group

A Group structure developed in 2017 demonstrates our commitment to growth, to ensure our core services to customers are protected, continue to be enhanced and make a real difference. Viaduct, Three Sixty and Foundations all generate commercial income and maximise the impact of the Group - reinvesting for an amazing Stockport.

From 225 staff in 2005 to over 650 now.

  • We are financially strong and have secured millions of pounds of inward investment into Stockport

We have a secure future, with a 26-year management agreement to deliver our core services for Stockport Council. By giving us a long-term future and allowing us to operate more independently the Council has recognised our ability to ‘Transform Lives’ in some of the most deprived neighbourhoods in the Borough. It has put its faith in us to rise to the challenges of a changing housing landscape.  In addition to this we attract funding and grants to deliver innovative projects to create opportunities for our customers and the wider community.

We are financially strong, raising our asset base from zero to £83.81 over the 15 years.

We invested in the building of our new HQ ‘Cornerstone’ – in the heart of the civic quarters, supporting the Councils strategic development plan and creating a town centre hub for our customers and visitors. It saves money over the longer term. Cornerstone stands for us – it stands for our vision and belief that our people (both customers and staff) deserve intelligent investment – it symbolises our innovative, go-getting culture and the high standards we strive for and want to give.

  • We have Transformed Lives and Given Something Back

Customers and excellent services are at the heart everything we do. Using innovation, commercialism and an entrepreneurial approach to make a real difference to homes, lives and communities.

Looking forward, growth across our group is a priority. Diversifying to increase commercial income to support our essential core services. Designing new homes, projects and opportunities; constructing; maintaining and improving; giving back to our community and creating positive futures are our focus.

Our Team support a Charity of Choice, and over the last 15 years have raised over £250,000. Our current charity is MQ – who transform mental health through research.

We will always strive to ensure our colleagues deliver excellence and enjoy being a part of the SHG journey.
