100 years of council housing

This year is the centenary of the Housing Act 1919, which paved the way for large-scale council housing.

Stockport Homes and Stockport Council will be planting 100 trees across the 21 wards in Stockport from the end of September to early October, to represent 100 years of social housing. We will be updating this page with photos of the tree planting.

Local residents are encouraged to get involved in the celebrations by sharing images of Stockport Council houses and communities over the years via social media – along with sharing ideas for how homes may look over the next 100 years. To enter tag @StockportHomes and use #100yearsofcouncilhousing (see terms and conditions below).

Future photos competition

Send us your ideas for how homes may look over the next 100 years to be in with a chance of winning a £100 Love2shop voucher. This could be a photo, painting or drawing - it's up to you!

Terms and conditions:

To enter the future photos competition, please use the #100yearsofcouncilhousing and tag @StockportHomes or email entries to marketing@stockporthomes.org. Photos must be of Stockport. You must have permission from any people in photos. Only one application per person will be accepted. Under 16 year olds must have their parents consent. Entries into the future photos competition must be received no later than Friday 4 October 2019. Entries received after this date will not be entered into the competition. There is one prize for the winning entry of a £100 Love2Shop voucher. There will be no cash alternatives. Independent judges will judge all entries to the competition in October. The judges’ decisions will be final. Winners will be notified in writing. The winning entry may be included in a photo display at Cornerstone. A list of winners can be obtained by writing to: Marketing and Communications, Stockport Homes, Cornerstone, 2 Edward Street, Stockport SK1 3NQ or found at www.stockporthomes.org Winners names and photographs will be included within Stockport Homes’ publicity.
