We are committed to providing energy efficient homes across Stockport and we continue to make investments, and from 2008, £32 million has been spent.
Improvements include loft and cavity wall insulation, installation of domestic solar panels and efficient biomass boilers, removal of old electric storage heaters and the creation of a biomass district heating scheme.
During 2010/11 we installed solar panels to almost 2,000 homes and these households are seeing an average saving of £158 per annum in the cost of their electricity.
We particularly wanted to help customers living in areas with district heating schemes reduce their energy bills so we did a six month feasibility study on the best technology available. Biomass proved to be the most effective way of delivering energy savings and carbon reduction so we developed our first biomass district heating system in 2011. We did a further four installations in 2012/13 and another two in 2014. We now use biomass across seven sites, covering two thousand homes in 25 tower blocks.
We have a team of Energy Solutions Advisers, who can offer you advice on the best use of heating controls to help to save money, in some cases this has led to customers saving £140 per year. See the energy advice page for more information.
