We can provide you with help and advice on getting back into work.

Whether you need support looking for a job or gaining work experience, if you are looking for an apprenticeship, training or work placements, or thinking about starting your own business, we can help you.

  • Employment Advice

    Employment support

    We offer employment support to anyone aged 18 and over, regardless of employment history or any barriers, we also offer a specific programme of support to over 25's facing particular barriers to work - this is called Motiv8.

    Our current employment support programmes cover a wide range of options from helping people find work, complete applications and as well as preparing for interviews. Current programmes also support people who may be interested in starting their own business. Find out more about our current opportunities.

    Job search

    We run a job club and workshop every Friday from 10.00am – 3.30pm at First House in Brinnington. The latest local vacancies and opportunities are advertised and there is free computer access with support so we can help you improve your CV. We can provide help to search for jobs online and offer tips on completing job applications.

    Careers advice

    We can also provide careers advice at First House and we can help you to create a plan to help you get into the career and job you want. If you are unsure what you can do or what you want to do, complete the enquiry form below and a member of the team will contact you to explore the options.

     

  • Skills Training

    We run regular training in a variety of areas, particularly where employment opportunities are growing such as the care, hospitality and the construction industry. We also offer computer skills training and other courses which assist when gaining work. 

    We run Skills for Life Plus programmes for customers and have courses available now.

  • Volunteering

    Volunteering is a fantastic way to boost your confidence and get you ready for work. Alternatively volunteering can be used as a way of giving something back to the community.

  • Work Placements

    Work placements give you an insight into different industries and areas of work, can provide much needed experience of the workplace, help you boost your confidence, offer a reference or give you on the job training which will help move you into employment. We offer regular placements at local organisations and also at Stockport Homes.

    Our Graduate Programmes have been created to align further study and / or workplace learning to operational role responsibilities. Graduates will work through their bespoke framework, which is also directly linked to incremental pay progression. Graduate positions are provided in areas of specific strategic importance or growth to ensure that individuals have the opportunity to stretch themselves whilst contributing to significant organisational objectives.   • Apprenticeships

    We offer a number of apprenticeships, some within Stockport Homes and a number offered by our partners such as B4Box who take on construction trainees, who help deliver construction projects on Stockport Homes properties.

  • Self Employment

    If you are you looking to start a business or become self-employed – we can help to put you in touch with the Greater Manchester Growth Hub who can show you how to plan and develop your business idea . Free one-to-one support and guidance is available to help you reach your goal. Advisors can help you to plan and start your business and cover such areas as: marketing, book-keeping and social media, business plan preparation, accessing finance and signposting to specialist support for a range of sectors.
