  • Volunteer Pantry Assistant

    This is an ideal opportunity if you are looking to get experience working in retail.  As a Volunteer Pantry Assistant, you'll be involved in a range of duties which include welcoming customers into one of our four Pantries as well as assisting them with their shopping. You'll also be responsible for keeping the Pantry well stocked and well presented at all times, checking payments, adhering to food safety and procedures, assisting with basic cleaning duties and helping to promote the Pantry.

    Qualities/Experience/skills

    Good communication and customer care skills would be a real asset in this role, as would previous experience of working in retail. However, all applications are warmly welcomed.

    Training

    • Full in house training will be given during your induction period.
    • Courses relevant to your position will also be offered e.g. accredited food hygiene course and manual handling.

  • Volunteer Stock Room Assistant

    This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in retail particularly in the warehouse and distribution sectors. 

    The volunteer Stock Room Assistant role within the Your Local Pantry, requires some heavy lifting and manual handling. 

    As a Stock Room Assistant you will be responsible for receiving goods and ensuring that they are stored correctly and in accordance with the Pantry's FIFO policy (first in first out). 

    You will also be responsible for completing weekly stock checks and temperature checks. Another key role is to ensure that the store room and all its equipment are kept clean and tidy.  You will also be expected to assist with placing food orders.

    Qualities/Experience/skills

    Previous experience of working with food or within a warehouse /stockroom environment is desirable, but all applications are welcomed.

    Training

  • Volunteer Administration Assistant

    This role is an ideal opportunity for someone to gain experience in a busy office environment, it will be helping to ensure that Your Local Pantry runs efficiently behind the scenes, supporting the network of stores to thrive. The role is largely office based clerical work, although there are opportunities to interact with the wider network and learn about all aspects of the organisation.

    Hours

    This role requires a minimum of half a day each week (approximately 4 hours), although hours can be flexible.

    Qualities / experience / skills

    Enthusiasm, creativity and good communication skills will make you an excellent candidate for this role.

    A good understanding of Microsoft Office packages would be beneficial, but training can be provided.

  • Volunteer Delivery Driver

    This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to get out and about and meet new people.

    Access to good food is at the heart of Your Local Pantry, and we want to get more of it to our members.

    We have a number of businesses willing to donate stock which requires collection from sites across Stockport and Greater Manchester and distribution to our network of community food stores. This additional stock is vital to supporting the operation of the Pantries, as well as helping to reduce food waste.

    Remuneration will be given for use of own petrol.

    Hours

    Exact timings will vary depending by supplier but we have existing contacts which require collections each Monday morning. Other collections may not be every week, and can be negotiated with suppliers.

    Qualities/Experience/skills

    Enthusiasm and good communication skills will make you an excellent candidate for this role.

    You will need to hold a full driving license; if you do not have access to your own vehicle you will need to be able to drive a van.

  • Volunteer Media and Marketing Assistant

    This role is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in the marketing field.  You will help promote Your Local Pantry to customers and partner organisations. In this role you’ll be responsible for supporting our social media pages, distributing promotional literature, contributing towards writing quarterly newsletters and other creative projects.

    Shifts

    This role requires a minimum of half a day each week (approximately 4 hours), although hours can be flexible.

  • Retail and Customer Service Course

    Stockport Homes is running a free weekly course to give you the skills that will put you ahead of the competition when applying for jobs in the retail / customer service sector. You will cover a range of subjects from Food Hygiene (level 2), manual handling, customer service training. You will then be offered 1-2-1 support from trained advisers to find the job that is right for you.

  • Volunteer Workshop Assistant

    Supporting a local Stockport charity The Furniture Station, The Workshop Assistant Volunteer will work alongside our existing volunteers to upcycle various selected items of furniture that require attention to further support our clients with more items of pre-loved furniture. You will be required to upcycle various woodwork items with the application of chalk paint, wax & various tools.
