We are continually working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website and in doing so adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.
This website endeavours to conform to level Double-A of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines will help make the web more user friendly for all people.
The information below highlights some of the changes made to improve the accessibility of Stockport Homes’ website.
We have tried to use colours throughout the website that provide maximum contrast between foreground and background items. On the left of the screen there is also an option for customers to change the colours, so the background colour turns yellow and the text turns black to make it easier for customers with visual impairments to read.
At the left hand side of the screen customers have the option to increase or decrease the size of the text on the website, change the colour contrast and translate the web pages into another language.
All images throughout the website have been assigned alternative text, which describes the contents or function of the item.
Navigation assistance: keyboard or mouse?
If you have restricted mobility or wish to avoid repetitive strain injury, you may find it useful to use your keyboard instead of your mouse to navigate our website. By using Tab and Enter on your keyboard, it is possible to navigate and access all areas of our website. The Tab key allows you to move and browse amongst the menus and links displayed on each page, and pressing Enter will activate your request for a particular menu or link. The arrow keys on the keyboard will enable you to move up or down the page or from left to right.
Throughout our website we use PDF (Portable Document Format) documents which are accessed by clicking on appropriate document links. To view a PDF, you may need to download Acrobat Reader first. This is a free software package.
If you would like a copy of any of our publications (including the Stockport at home customer newsletter) in large print, Braille, on audio tape or CD, or in another language, please contact the Social Inclusion Team on 0161 474 2860 or email email@example.com
