An innovative construction project is helping Stockport Homes to deliver 14 new homes for affordable rent in the Borough.
Working in partnership with Bowsall Construction and Willerby Ltd. it is the first modular build project of its kind that Stockport Homes has done. The project will provide 14 family homes, a mixture of 2 and 3 bedrooms, using a modular system which is constructed in a factory before being transported to the site and craned carefully into position.
Cllr Sheila Bailey, Executive Councillor for Communities & Housing, said:
This type of innovative solution is exactly what we want to see from local housing providers. It could help us build many more affordable homes quickly on difficult sites and with the least disruption to neighbours. It is great to see Stockport Homes blazing a trail for other home builders to follow.
Building these homes in a factory reduces construction waste and eliminates delays due to adverse weather. The units arrived on site with fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms.
Chair of Stockport Homes’ board David Wright said:
These innovative new homes are a clear demonstration of the incredibly hard work our employees do to help transform lives.
The project is due for completion by the end of 2016.
