Top of the class for naming our new development

Posted 12 December 2016   |   By Verity Calderbank

Stockport Homes are delighted to be increasing the amount of quality, affordable housing in Stockport, with the launch of a new development of 24 homes in Edgeley.

Working with Wiggett’s Construction, the development is due for completion in December 2017 and will deliver twelve, 2 bedroomed homes, six, 1 bedroomed apartments and six 1 bedroomed bungalows.

Stockport Homes launched a competition to name the development, on Bulkeley Street, Edgeley with local primary school, St Matthews. The children had some really imaginative ideas, and the winner was chosen as Lucy Taylor, who suggested ‘Sykes Court’. With three runner up’s who had mentioned ‘Sykes’ in their entries.

Councillor Sheila Bailey, Executive Councillor for Communities and Housing presented the prizes, and said,

It was great to see how many children had entered the competition to name the new housing development.  There had obviously been some research into the history of Edgeley and the name Sykes Court was eventually chosen.  It will be great for the children to watch the development take shape and know that their school gave it its name.  Well done to everyone

Joining Councillor Bailey were,Nicola Shortland, Development Officer at Stockport Homes, Paul Roberts, Contract Manager at Wigget’s Construction and Councillor Philip Harding (Ward Councillor for Edgeley and Cheadle Heath)

Robin Burman, Chair of Stockport Homes’ Board said,

It’s great to see the local children getting involved with naming this new development and in such a creative way. We are delighted to be developing more much needed, affordable housing in Stockport
